Yoga for Pregnancy
Yoga is the ideal exercise for pregnant women and is widely recommended by doctors and midwives as an excellent preparation for birth. Students learn simple but effective breath and relaxtion techniques, yoga postures to manage common ailments (such as swollen joints, heartburn and constipation), and visualisation practices to build confidence and assist in easeful birth. Pregnancy Yoga enhances the vitality, mobility, general health and emotional wellbeing of the expectant mother; it also provides a valuable quiet space in which to bond with your unborn child and prepare for birth.

No previous Yoga experience is necessary, mats and any other equipment are supplied. Ideal from 14 weeks until birth.

Tanya Carter has been teaching yoga for seven years, and practising for over twenty. She first trained in India in the Ashtanga style, then went on to further her training in Pregnancy and Post-natal yoga. She trained with Uma Dinsmore Tuli who created the Pregnancy yoga module for the British Wheel of Yoga and who teaches worldwide. Tanya’s classes are dedicated to helping women keep in touch with their bodies during and after pregnancy, helping them to have as natural a childbirth as possible and regain their strength afterwards. Her classes are fun and light-hearted, learning to be flexible in both body and mind. Tanya’s knowledge and experience are invaluable in helping women at these important times.

'We had arranged a homebirth which we largely managed to have, but after 10 hours Zach had turned awkwardly and needed some help coming out. That said the whole labour was very calm and relaxed on my part and Zach's heartbeat was steady throughout. I dealt with labour really well and had no pain relief, using focused breathing (including a bit of the breathing we had done in classes,) visualisations and massage. I feel that the pregnancy yoga was a huge help during my pregnancy and the birth, it gave me some great strategies and positions and put me in the right state of mind mentally, so thank you very much.

PS If your baby surprises you and arrives early any sessions you have paid for will be credited to you to use in Mummy & Baby Yoga classes, or other classes when you are ready to return to exercise and get back in shape!
